Notes From The Road

Some of those random musings that so amuse you:

The Kingdom of Fife - Our drive south was along the coastal route, though the heavy rains limited our enjoyment somewhat.  But we did stop in St. Andrews to enjoy a few minutes of Old Course views:
The iconic R & A Clubhouse.
Looking back down towards The Old Course Hotel.
Old Tom's shop alongside the 18th green.
Homage - Despite the rain, we walked to the cemetery to pay our respects:
The graves of Young (top) and Old Tom.
I was also pleased to find the grave of Alan Robertson.  While his name is not as widely known, without Robertson there would likely have not been a Tom Morris, Old or Young:

And this is famed Younger Hall, where Bobby Jones famously addressed the citizens of St. Andrews and where the Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held earlier this year:

And the famed Northpoint Coffee Shop, popular among the university crowd:

But who are these Kate and Wills of whom they speak?  One can only assume it relates to some dreadful Nora Ephron film...

Crail - A former royal burgh in the East Neuk of Fife, Crail is a lovely village built around its harbor and is home to some 1,639 souls.  Well, make that 1,641 for the next three days.

Our after dinner stroll down to the harbor Wednesday evening was in a quintissential Scottish soft rain, the kind that gives Scotland a good name:

No doubt there would have been better light for these photos earlier in the day:

But this was quite curious, a building with a door barely big enough for small folks like ourselves to duck through.  Those second floor windows are where you'd expect them, it's the doorway that's off:

Crail, Real Estate Watch - I'm quite sure we're not alone in this, but when we find ourselves in such lovely environs we fantasize about which specific property would suit us best.  In the present circumstances, this house caught our eye as it's available for a potential future holiday rental:

Location, location, location.
In passing a local realtor's office this listing immediately caught my eye:

If it seems perfect for us, that might be because it's the very inn in which we're currently staying...that bottom-right photo would be our actual room.  As long as they don't close on the sale before Sunday, it's of course of no interest to us....

Notes From Nutwood - Elsie, having read of our round on the Balcomie, has written from Nutwood to Theresa as follows:
Well - according to Scott's blog both you and he playing off the wrong handicaps during our expedition to Askernish... so a matter of disqualification the Nutwood committee have decreed? .....Scott should be mighty ashamed accepting such a fine trophy
Elsie, I thought it was only the colonists hiding behind technicalities.... The handicap revisions in question were effective as of 15-August, and since the Askernish rounds in question were played on the 10th and 11th, I'm afraid your protest has been found by The Committee to be totally without merit.

But since a certain photo was published herein, I think it's only fair to show that nothing is off limits.  Fellow Willow Ridge golfers (very much including our own Employee No. 2) are wont to make fun of your humble blogger's laugh, and many is the time I've been told that I can be heard clear across the golf course.

Theresa mentioned something about it while we were at Askernish and Elsie noted that it reminds her of Basil Brush. an unfamiliar reference to us.  It wasn't until we were back on the main(is)land that I found this (it's a long video, so no need to watch after the first "Boom, Boom"):

I of course note no actual similarities, but the reader can determine whether I'm due royalties.
