This is cute. Jack Nicklaus has posted on Instagram the image of his first professional paycheck from the 1962 Los Angeles Open:
According to golf.com:
Nicklaus tied with Billy Maxwell and Don Massengale, according to the Golf Historical Society, which also includes the historical factoid that the clubhouse at the Rancho Park golf course was open to the public during the tournament. The Society has Phil Rodgers winning the tournament with a 67-71-68-62 — 268, well in front of Jack’s 74-70-72-73 — 289.
The Golden Bear’s check would be worth about $250 in today’s dollars. For his career, he made an amazing 506 cuts in 595 events to compile $5,734,322 in career earnings.
Of course, Jack didn't rest on his laurels after banking this $33.33, as he went on to win the U.S. Open that year for his first professional title, and had a reasonably productive career thereafter.
Not sure what's more amazing, that he still had the image to share or that at the age of 74 he's on Instagram?
