Friday provided a statistical oddity, with two albatrosses (albatrossi?) in professional golf as per this golf.com piece.
First, Joost Luiten (easy for you to say) made a deuce on the Par 5 tenth hole at Durban Country club, jarring a seven iron from 248 yards out in the Volvo Championship. A 248 yard seven iron? Egads!
Video of Luiten's shot can be found here and the associated account indicates that he used a four iron...which seems more, what's the word, human?
Later in the day, James Hahn matched the feat, with a 191 yard six iron on the ninth hole at Waialae Country Club in the Sony Open. Video of Hahn's shot below:
Disappointing low single digit fans of fads whose fifteen minutes of fame has lapsed, Hahn wisely passed on a Gangnam-style celebration. For those who were asleep during the Gangnam era, that reference relates to the video below from the 2013 Phoenix 16th hole mosh pit Waste Management Phoenix Open.
To put it in context, there was only one albatross on the European Tour last season.
