Into the home stretch and, unlike California Chrome, we might just get there in time...
Hole No. 13 - Par 4 - 385 Yards: Another short Par-4 that Shackelford think might be prone to divot clusters at the dogleg, some 250 yards off the tee. It's also, as the video explains, one of the few greens where long is the preferred miss.
Hole No. 14 - Par 4 - 479 Yards: While No. 13 may have them thinking birdies, No. 14 will disabuse the lads of that notion. It features as tight a landing area as any hole on the course, with the bunker on the left is a must to avoid.
Hole No. 15 - Par 3 - 205 Yards: This is one of only two greens (the other being the 17th) renovated by Coore-Crenshaw, essentially restoring a section on the right that had been lost to an encroaching bunker. The green is simply spectacular, unless you want to hold it...
They use some different golf statistics at Pinehurst, as I learned during my first round there last October. I hit a near perfect 6-iron that landed on the front third of the green, hopped towards the back right pin and then trickled down into the collection area back right. Not missing a beat, my caddie congratulated me on my ball mark in regulation.
