Leftovers

There's a couple of stories I wanted to post on, unrelated to the U.S. Open and/or Pinehurst No. 2.  A heads up that there will be no posting tomorrow, as I'm off to the all-day Member-Guest at Engineers Golf Club on Long Island.  But to be fair, I've given you a ton of content (what the Scottish housewife would call a major time suck) today.

First up, my old buddy Travelin" Joe Passov breaks the news that The Barclays, the opening FedEx Cup event, will be going to a toxic landfill Trump Golf Links Ferry Point:
The Barclays event on the PGA Tour will have a new home in 2017: Trump Golf Links Ferry
Point in New York City. Sources close to Donald Trump tell Golf.com that Trump and the PGA Tour have an agreement in place that will move the tournament there in 2017, with a return engagement set for 2020. Such a commitment speaks volumes for the merits of a course that won’t open until 2015 -- or to the persuasiveness of Trump himself. Further chatter has given rise to another question: Can a Ryder Cup for Trump Ferry Point be far behind?
Occupying one of the most remarkable tracts in golf, Trump Golf Links Ferry Point sits on a 222-acre converted landfill adjacent to the Whitestone Bridge in the Bronx, with backdrops that include the East River, Long Island Sound, the Throgs Neck Bridge, St. Raymond’s Cemetery and public parks. Ferry Point’s easy accessibility via air, ground and underground and the easy-on-the-eyes Manhattan skyline are huge plusses.
Joe fails to answer my first question, which is whether any of the courses in the current Barclays rota, Bethpage Black, Plainfield and Liberty National, are to be dropped.  Bethpage and Plainfield are certifiable gems, and the best that can be said about Liberty National is that the players din't seem to hate it as much the second go around.

As for Joe's Ryder Cup question, that would be a firm no.  With the Cup coming to the Black in 2024, the next New York edition of that event is not during Joe's natural life expectancy.

I'm not sure how Shackelford feels about this news. as this was his header:
Great News? The Barclays Is Headed To Trump Ferry Point Ensuring It Won't Host A U.S. Open Any Time Soon!
Take it from an experienced blogger, you have to stop equivocating and let people know where you stand on the issues of the day.

In other news of great import, Luke Kerr-Dineen informs us that Rory is just like the rest of us:
Following his T-23 finish at the 2014 U.S. Open, Rory McIlroy was on his way to the Irish Open on Monday but ran into a slight problem -- his golf clubs, apparently, were on a different schedule. About 24 hours later, Rory McIlroy tweeted at the airline on Tuesday politely enquiring as to their whereabouts. After all, he does "sort of need them this week."
I thought Rory's days of flying commercial went by the wayside at the same time as Holly Sweeney, but so be it.

But my real interest in this is to reflect back a few weeks to when Caroline changed her Twitter picture.  She did it the Friday morning of the Memorial, after Rory shot 63 on Thursday the week after coming from nowhere to win the BMW at Wentworth.  As a refresher, this is the pic in question:

It's all gone pear-shaped for the lad since this went up.  Just sayin'...
And what of our fair Caroline?  Turns out that she won her first round match against Aussie Sam Stoser at some tournament called the AEGON International, and an Aussie daily strangely named mX showed what they're teaching in jornalism school these days:

Ummmm, aren't you supposed to at least try to get a comment from Rory the bastard?
